STATEMENT: Governor Lee's State of the State Address 2019
The following statement is issued by The Tennessee Charter School Center Team in response to Governor Bill Lee’s State of the State on March 4, 2019:
“In his first State of the State address, Governor Bill Lee pledged his support of quality, highly accountable public charter schools. We are excited that Governor Lee has recognized the positive impact of Tennessee’s public charter schools and plans to prioritize support for and expansion of high quality public school options for students across the state. At the Tennessee Charter School Center, we believe that quality public education will provide the foundation for our state’s future success and growth. We look forward to continuing to work with the Governor and his team on ensuring our public charter schools are celebrated while also holding them accountable for their results.
We especially commend Governor Lee for his planned increase in the State’s investment in the public charter school facilities funding. While the appropriations to the Charter School Facilities Fund by the General Assembly over the past two years has greatly impacted recipients, the gap in facility funding continues to be a challenge for public charter schools. We are excited to see an increase in this fund which will help to ensure that millions of dollars can stay in classrooms across the state.”
