STATEMENT FROM MAYA BUGG
CEO, Tennessee Charter School Center
on the KIPP Nashville Charter School Appeals Decision
“We applaud today’s decision by the State Board of Education to approve the appeals and to move forward in opening two new KIPP public charter schools in Nashville.
This historic vote by the State Board is a big and important step in ensuring that more students and families in Nashville have access to high-quality public schools.
Tennessee’s public charter schools are among the top performing schools in the state. Six of the 14 top-performing Reward Schools in Metro Nashville this year were charter schools, including KIPP Academy, a public charter middle school in East Nashville.
We look forward to working with KIPP Nashville and our many other charter operators to help them succeed in serving more students, families and communities in our state.”
