MEDIA ADVISORY: Some Nashville Charters Start Back Early

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- While most families across Nashville are still preparing for the start of school, students of several charter schools in Nashville will be getting a jump start on curbing their summer learning loss when their schools start a week early. Charter schools are public schools that are managed by independent, nonprofit organizations. The management structure allows for greater flexibility in the design of the instructional environment, including when the school year starts and ends. The first day of school for Metro Nashville Public Schools is Monday, Aug. 7.

The following public charter schools open their doors to students next week:


STRIVE Collegiate (3055 Lebanon Pike #300 Nashville, 37214)

Monday, July 31, first day for new students

Tuesday, Aug. 1, 5th and 6th grade students only

Monday, Aug. 7, all students attend


Nashville Classical (310 Ordway Pl. Nashville, TN 37206)

Tuesday, Aug. 1, first day for kindergarten

Monday, Aug. 7, all students attend


Rocketship Education (three locations)

Tuesday, Aug. 1, first day for all students


Media are invited to attend morning meeting at STRIVE on Monday, Tuesday or  Wednesday, July 31 – Aug. 1, morning motivation at Nashville Classical on Thursday, Aug. 3, or Launch, the morning student assembly, at Rocketship United Academy on Friday, Aug. 4. A faculty member and a parent will be available for interviews at each school.

Rocketeers come together each day for Launch, where the entire school recites the Pledge of Allegiance, the Rocketship Creed, and sings and dances together. Launch allows each student to start their day with with a positive experience that helps them build community among their teachers and classmates.

WHAT: Launch – the daily morning assembly at all Rocketship schools

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 4 at 7:30 a.m. (Launch starts promptly at 7:45 a.m.)
