Governor Lee Presented with National Charter Champion Award at Annual Tennessee Charter Schools Conference

DETAILS: Governor Lee will be presented with the 2019 Champion for Charters Award, a national recognition bestowed annually on local, state, and federal policymakers who are making a difference for students by supporting high-quality public charter schools. Governor Lee will be presented the award during this year’s annual Tennessee Charter School Center Conference, State of Tennessee’s professional development conference convening education leaders from Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. TCSC CEO Dr. Maya Bugg said “It is my honor to present Governor Lee with this award. Tennessee is privileged to have a National Charter School Champion leading our state. We have over 115 charter schools across the state serving almost 40,000 students; these public charter schools are continually meeting or exceeding state academic standards. We are thankful our Governor is committed to our vision of providing all of Tennessee’s students with access to a high-quality education.” During the conference, TCSC will also be presenting the 2019 State Charter Champion Awards recognizing the leadership and commitment of five to be announced honorees in the following categories: Policy Champion of the Year, School of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Teacher of the Year, and Community Service Project of the Year.
